"Take your own power....live your own dreams!"

THE GENE BUA * ACTING FOR LIFE THEATRE

Transformational Acting:
Gene Bua's original creation -- a powerhouse of techniques that enables actors to transcend everyday reality into a new world of confidence, spontaneity, and brilliance in their art and in their lives.

WHAT IS ACTING FOR LIFE?

Using his own ever-evolving method, designed to combine body, mind and spirit, Bua's ACTING FOR LIFE promotes artistic excellence and personal healing. It's much more than acting. It's living . . . being . . . changing . . . daring. The West Coast headquarters of ACTING FOR LIFE opened in 1984 at what is now "The Gene Bua * Acting For Life Theatre", in Burbank, CA with the goal of training, nurturing and inspiring actors and other artists of life to fulfill their highest potential, and "live their dreams."

A LIFE OF ITS OWN:

The Theatre has since become a nexus for actors, writers, directors, producers, therapists, lawyers and others who want to push their boundaries and tap into the richest source of their being.
Gene, his wife, co-founder and head writer Toni Bull Bua, and the ACTING FOR LIFE organization have received honors from the White House, five different California Mayors, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, The Board of Education, Youth Suicide Prevention of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Unified School District, the University of Judaism, Science of Mind, Hope House, Penny Lane, Cry Help, Tonya's Children and many, many other civic, charitable, and religious organizations.

ABOUT GENE BUA AND TONI BULL BUA

Trained at New York's prestigious "Neighborhood Playhouse", Gene Bua was discovered by famed composer Richard Rodgers who asked him to play the lead in the Broadway revival of "The Boys from Syracuse." After starring in a string of hit shows, Gene became a soap opera idol as Bill Prentiss on CBS TVs long running Daytime Drama, "Love of Life" where he met his co-star, Toni Bull, trained from age 14 by Uta Hagen, and Wynn Handman of the renowned "American Place Theatre". As America watched them fall in love on TV, life was imitating art. When their characters married on the show, they married in real life.

They continued to be two of the most popular and respected actors on daytime television. While both on the set of NBC TV's "Another World, Somerset", other actors would approach Gene seeking to discover what technique he used to be so spontaneous and so powerfully in the moment, take after take. He invited his cast members to his New York City apartment and began an experiment...a merging of Gene's Sanford Meisner technique and Toni's intensive Uta Hagen training, that eventually grew, transformed and exploded into ACTING FOR LIFE.

In addition to their many stage and television credits, their numerous charitable involvements, and ACTING FOR LIFE, the Buas have created and produced a string of award winning productions including the legendary "Pepper Street" which was written by Toni and composed and directed by Gene. At the time it was L.A.'s longest running musical and before being optioned for broadway sponsored over 3000 kids at risk during its five year run.

"Across from Cindy's Corner," a journey through Gene's life and teachings, earned him the Artistic Directors' Award for BEST ACTOR IN A MUSICAL.

In June of 2001, the Buas opened the World Premiere of their new SUPERMUSICAL
"2nd WIND."

All productions both on stage and screen are cast directly from the student body of GENE BUA * ACTING FOR LIFE.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

TRACEY  BREGMAN
Emmy™ Winner, BEST ACTRESS "The Young and the Restless"

"What I find most amazing in Gene's class is watching the new actors perform. The first impression is they should keep their day jobs. But within months, sometimes sooner, they are blowing you away... I have worked with many teachers and none of them have the energy and enthusiasm of Gene. His class is filled with love, support and an extraordinary knowledge of what he teaches. There has never been a time when Gene has not been there for me personally or professionally. After ten years of studying with Gene, his support continues to warm my heart."

TONY HUSTON
Academy Award™ Nominee - Writer: "The Dead"
Also Actor/Director. Son of John Huston.
"Gene's attention to his students is absolute. I have never encountered a greater degree of concentration, such acuity when it comes to details of performance. He is extremely sensitive to the vulnerable side of those in his care. I have never seen him expose a student to even the slightest embarrassment, let alone ridicule. His total concern is to help us, to flower at our own rate. This does not mean that he cannot become irritated in some way however-but only when the student is insincere, cheating himself in some way. Gene is very conscious that we are taking class to learn - he makes sure we get our money's worth. Gene's teaching has permeated my whole life. I feel profoundly enriched and fortunate to have found him.
KIM SWARTZ
Attorney, Of Counsel to Mitchell, Silverberg & Knupp
"...I have learned to trust my own inner talent, to rely on it more an more...Mr. Bua is always responsive to any questions, comments and requests. It is possible in identifying and working with needs that even we are not aware of that Mr. Bua excels. I am amazed at how caring and sensitive he is to the needs and feelings of each student. Working with him has not only improved my acting, but has helped me immeasurably in my personal and professional life."
MATTHEW FEITSHANS
21 Year Old Fledgling Actor/Director/Writer
"Dear Gene and Toni,
...What I've learned - and will learn - from Acting For Life is invaluable, especially in the last month as I have gone out to pitch my latest screenplay at the studios. Using emotional preparation and personal inventory, and my inspiration at any given moment, I have been winning over executives left and right. Even those who do not buy my story have been saying things like: 'That was the most dramatic pitch I've ever heard!' and even "And what role do you want to play?' I just signed with Paradigm and they are going to bat for me. I think about you guys everyday and will especially tomorrow, when I have four pitches in one day!
With Love, Matthew Feitshans"
JEFF POLLACK
Creator of "FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR"
Writer/Director/Producer "Above the Rim"
"Gene, I keep going back to all the principals I used in class. I try to always be in the moment . . . hold a clear vision . . . I dive into the unknown, and I'm not afraid to fail. Your principals are invaluable and life-lasting. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for working with you."

CAITLYN KEATS star of "Small Town x"
"The work we do in Gene's class is the most personal vulnerable work I have ever done in my life as an artist. He has given me tools to go inside and find exactly what I need in an effortless way. Its very simple work and he teaches with so many different options to choose from, so when I'm on the set- of one thing isn't accessing me, I go to the work and am instantly present. I've never been able to get in so quickly and deeply, or to be able to shift so suddenly until Gene showed up with these methods. He is a genius. Every actor deserves these tools. "

NATALIE AVITAL writer, director, actor.
"Your performers are unmatchable. The emotion and commitment from each actor is breath taking. Gene you are my first and greatest mentor and I will always come back to the truth of letting go, living in the unknown, breathing and allowing my inspiration its full life... I am returning to class and the space that constantly reminds and demands that I believe and trust my insticts and impulses... and above all... the moment. You and Toni are both angels to me."

JENNIFER ROSE, Star of HBO Move ""With a Perfect Stranger"
"I used Gene's tools on the set and every distraction just floated away- I was able to pull any emotion the directed wanted with no effort at all. Gene's magic."

Amy Davidson, star of the new Olson Twins sitcom on FOX
"I used Gene's method in every audition and on my set. It's amazing."
